Just as a reminder all one can redeem Ultimate Rewards points as I did and book a Mr & Mrs Smith property in Europe
I booked a suite last year for 25 K.
Had I transferred the points to IHG it would have cost me 35,000 points and had to downgrade next day so I could justify it
The superior option with IHG is to buy their points at 0.5c per point during their regular sales then offset the cost of that purchase by cashing out UR at 1c per point.
If you did that, your 35K IHG room would have cost 17.5K UR, cheaper than the 25K UR you paid for it.
