One day in Rome (post cruise) - What Marriott?
I have been reading many threads and some seem to still be changing daily due to our post covid times so I thought I would post a new thread. I hope I am not breaking too many rules.
I know so many hotels have not reopened their lounges and some that will never have them again. Heck, even the last 3 RI properties I have stayed at for business stopped their nightly "dinner." They all state they will likely NEVER resume that service.
Here is my situation - we are coming in for a cruise landing after 8:00 pm so we are just going to go to the Rome Marriott Park--we'll be exhausted from a very long flight from SMF. And who knows what time we'll actually arrive if there were delays or missed connections. So we don't really care about the Marriott on the front end.
On the tail end is going to take a little more research--which is why I am posting.
My husband read about the W Marriott in the latest magazine we got but honestly, after reading quite a few posts about this place (and not even being able to open up two suitcases at a time because of the odd configuration/size of the room), I decided to check other amazing properties. If we are going to plop down 85k - 125k points, I want to make the best decision possible (not spending 750 euro for a room).
We'll be getting off the ship on Friday am very early (end of October 23). We are staying an extra day post cruise, like we always do as to not even participate that last day of crazy hustle bustle with everyone trying to get off the ship. We'll be the last group to get off--probably around 10:00 am.
We will have just completed a 12 night cruise and the last two nights will have been at sea so we will be totally relaxed, and in all honestly, probably just want to have a chill day walking around the area and having a nice dinner or special lunch nearby. We will need to get to FCO the next day but that doesn't seem to be more than 30 minutes away no matter where we stay and we don't fly out until after 11:20 am so no crazy 5:00 am flight to try to catch so no need to stay at an airport property.
I know I can pretty much forget about a lounge--seems like either Rome doesn't "do" lounges or it is just something that hasn't been revitalized post covid. Not sure.
So if money (points) was no object, what Marriott property would you suggest that aren't shoebox sized rooms (we will have a ridiculous amount of luggage so we have to put it somewhere), walkable where we can just walk out and go exploring, and if you may even know of a really great restaurant that is close by that we'd have to make reservations soon! Not that it matters, but we'd really like to have a special lunch/dinner that we could walk or take taxi to somewhat close to the property.
We spent a week in Rome years ago (Rome Cavalieri--was a Hilton property--not sure what it is today) and saw a lot of the touristy things--on this final day in Rome, we'd really just like to chill at an amazing hotel.
I have a reservation so far at the W and the St. Regis. I am not expecting upgrades/perks as acknowledgement for Platinum--seems like everyone has Platinum these days and we are lucky to get breakfast included at this point since so many don't have lounges anymore....we experienced some amazing lounges over the decades and I think those might be in our rearview mirror. No, we don't travel to international hotels for the lounges--but they sure have come in handy more times than I can count.
Thank you for any information you can share with me.
