ISTFlyer makes the point about flying point to point on similar pricing. There’s the rub. TK may be the bees knees but it comes at a cost. I plucked two dates out of the air for September and compared. BA wanted £630 or so and for similar timings TK wanted £1260. That’s a huge difference. Yes, you could reduce the TK price by £200 or so by choosing to fly at less convenient times (06.30 for the outbound). This may well explain why BA have huge Club sections.
Would I go on flying BA if the Tier Points had been confirmed as 40 rather than 80? Indeed I would. At £600 each, one can stay in excellent hotels and still have change. I suspect that most people who pay their own fares or their employers will prefer the much lower fares rather than double Tier Points.
