On the 2nd night of a 3 nights stay booked with points between 5K and 6.5K before it went up to Cat 2. (Years ago it was a Cat 2 property when we stayed one night).
At check I was told only Globalists receive complementary breakfast. It is 15 for us peon members if agreed to upcharge upfront or 19 later. We agreed on the upfront up charge.
Because I booked them as 3 individual nights (initially 5 individual nights as we did not know which day we would go to Hague), I should do the check out / recheck in each morning but this morning the desk was busy at the time we headed out so I was prepared to do this upon return. The receptionist said the 3 days were merged but reprogramming of keys is needed. I asked if I needed to settle the real fast bill, he checked then said it should be complementary for “our members”. He said for some reason “we received these point bookings as without breakfast but we did not charge it.” However, 30 min later he called up and apologized about the error envoys information - he checked with his supervisor who then told him complementary breakfast is for Globalists only. He sad I could take care of it tomorrow morning. The fact that they already pre-authorize my CC for 3 days stay at check in, I don’t think I need to “take care of it” in the middle of the stay, but wait till checking out to settle the full folio.
I am just cruise on if there is anyone who is NOT Globalist and stays here on points recently, did the breakfast is charged?
As for the quality of such, I am hesitant to agree reviews here on the quality. It is very so so, especially in term of protein offerings. Poor quality of very thin ham, remade Turkey ir chicken meat cold cut, very salty chicken sausage and beacon. Very basic selection of sliced cheese, only one type of yogurt in a bowl for you to scoop at. Cut up fruit salad and canned yellow peach slices. Scrambled egg tasted like is made from frozen liquid egg in carton, Any other egg dish is a 5.50 additional charge atop the 15 charge (selected upfront or 19 paid at the spot). Water is from a jar instead of bottled water and there is no sparkling water.
As a contrast we stayed 5 nights at a Four Points at Siena, Italy on this same trip. Four Points should be in similar limited service category as Hyatt Place. That Four Points in Siena now offers complimentary breakfast to all guests. Scrambled eggs were made from fresh eggs, Simple egg dishes upon order without any additional charge. Protein offerings include prosciutto, cotto, salami, ham and chicken meat slices. Several kinds of yogurt in individual cups, whole fruits of kiwi, pear and apple plus slices of melon and pineapple, not the yucky cut up fruit salads at Hyatt Place AMS. The water at Four Points are bottled still and sparkling water together with lemon fused water in a jar. Many kinds of sweets apparently were very popular among the Italian guests. Their boiled eggs were done just right with a very soft , deep yellow yolk. At Hyatt place AMS the boiled eggs are very “hard boiled” and the egg yolks are very light color inside but outside have some purple marks / spot on it - we did not eat the yolk.
We also stayed at an AC hotel at Brescia Italy on this trip. AC should be of lower category than both Hyatt Place and Hyatt House I believe. Yet the 13 euro breakfast at AC while not as good as the free breakfasts at Four Points Siena, it is still much better than Hyatt Place AMS.
The 15 or 19 euro breakfast charge is not justified for the quality and variety of the foods other than the convenience.
The main good part of it was the Cat 1 pricing, good for those who have no need to be in Amsterdam proper.
