The Chinese carriers kept other carriers honest with their fares by offering cheaper flights to all major Asian cities from the USA with connections in China. Their competitors in turn had to reduce their prices in order to remain competitive pricing wise. CX used to be $3000-3500 round trip in business from PVG-SFO/LAX for example. It is now asking $7500-8500 for the same flight. BKK-SFO could regularly be had for under $3000 rt in biz. Now its more like $5000.
Once the Chinese Big 3 are allowed to fly like before, it will depress these fares and impress me and other flyers looking for deals.
