Yes, you are correct about the difference between 777 & 787 due to the crew bunks in the latter. Regardless, I have never had the slightest trouble finding room for my carryons comfortably near my seat in row one on either plane. IME, the front cabin overheads pretty much always end up closing with a good amount of empty space still unfilled.
