Yes, you have to be a fairly regular traveller through Latin America, Indonesia, etc. with a good understanding of finance to have even noticed the issue. Talking about DCC is a distraction rather than discussing the issue properly.
In principle, I don't have any issue with hotels protecting themselves against their own currency's inflationary tendencies. But I do have a major problem with scamming guests by applying made-up FX rates rather than using central bank issued FX rates.
