OK - question:
I just applied a TSU to a reservation over the phone -- and got a confirmation email that reflects that full suite $ rate (original room rate was $255/night, and now the email and what is showing up in my online account is $845/night). The reservation does note "SUITE UPGRADE AWARD" but the fact that the nightly rate is now reflecting > 3x as much is freaking me out a little.
I brought this up to the agent and she said that this is normal -- and that I would only be charged $255/night when I checked in -- despite my new confirmation very clearly saying that the rate is $845/night.
Now -- admittedly I don't think I've every redeemed a suite upgrade on a cash rate before --- only points, and usually they have to call up the room and do some weird shenanigans where the property blocks the room but your reservation continues to say you're booked into your old standard room type. So that's a whole other form of anxiety until you show up and actually get your suite....
But -- I guess my question is -- is what the phone agent saying to me normal? I'm not gonna suddenly be presented with an $845/night hotel bill when I go to check in? She seemed very calm/assured about this even as I was freaking out. Any FT data points here?
