Just returned from a 4 night stay at Solaz and figured I'd share my thoughts. The property itself is very pretty with a bunch of nicely designed spaces. We stayed in the Oasis King room and I loved that there was a sliding wall with a door that you could use to close off the bathroom/vanity/mini-bar area from the bedroom. It helped with the insanely annoying light in the toilet that won't turn off. The dual sinks are nice but the slope is really shallow and it doesn't drain well so if you and your partner are both using it the water can back up and or splash near the vanity. Bed was firm but comfortable. There was a bit of road noise but from what I gathered it's much better than the plunge pool rooms without a view and where you can hear your neighbor if they're out on their patio. Our butlers or artisan's as the hotel calls them were great, very responsive and on top of every request. Julio the guest experiences agent was fantastic and shared some great insights about San Jose and the art walk. The continental breakfast is kinda a joke at this price point, the Westin I stayed at in Dallas had a 10x better spread but the servers were great and very accommodating to dietary restrictions. The servers at the pool and at Mako were hit and miss. We asked for a drink with fresh passion fruit and it was made with passion fruit syrup, an argument was then made that because the passion fruit that went into the syrup was fresh that it then constituted fresh fruit....The gym is adequate and Foresta was nice for smoothies and healthy bites, just wish they had the option to add protein powders to them.
Overall, I think it's a decent property, we never experienced any sort of time share pitch, no tour of the art gallery was mandated or even suggested. Would I stay there at the $800/nt rack rate? Absolutely not. Do I think it's a good value in the ~$400 range? Most definitely.
