Had couple agent say excursionist perk only applies to ticket that travels 2 different regions. UA didn’t think through their rules when they wrote them. The “must be two different regions” thing was always the spirit of the rule.
If you’re going to fly something like you describe:
(a) don’t call to book
(b) fly all segments
(c) understand that you may lose the ExPerk segment if you have to make changes — if online change fails (as it often does), you may not find an agent who is willing to change the reservation.
