I quite enjoyed my time at the Le Meridien Seoul Myeongdong due to a generally good hard product, excellent and truly friendly service, and good food and beverage. The property is not perfect, but it's a strong modern alternative to the nearby Westin Josun. Here are my pros, cons, and photos:
Pros:
- Upgraded to a suite the evening before arrival - this was the category below "Executive" but it was a full suite with 1.5 baths
- Bed was quite comfortable - just-right mattress (mattresses in Korea seem to lean towards firm or just-right), plush covers, plush pillows
- Shower pressure was good
- Large walk-in closet
- Modern design language is consistent - I prefer the traditional look of the Westin Josun, but this will appeal to folks looking for "new"
- Brought a plate of fruit - didn't eat any of it, but I'll add it as a Pro due to the thought
- Service from the club lounge staff (handles check-ins, etc.) was great - all of them were genuinely friendly, wanted to talk, hear about my plans for upcoming hotels, and checked on me after experiencing an issue in my first room
- Asked proactively about late checkout - no issue with the 3 PM I requested
- Club lounge evening service was really quite good - yummy desserts, nice fish and fried chicken (other options, too), good bar with serve-your-own Kahlua and Bailey's (others, too)
- You can either have breakfast in the lounge or pick restaurant breakfast as your welcome gift - I did the restaurant, but I noticed even the lounge had an eggs chef
- Thought breakfast was really tasty
- Super cheesy and yummy omelets - so good I had two
- Nice french toast, baked salmon, crispy bacon, yummy hashbrowns
- Mentioned I had hurt my knee earlier in the day at check-in, so they gave me a coupon for a free "Le Scoop" from the lobby lounge
Cons:
- First suite given had a strong odor problem, made far worse once I opened the door to the toilet stall in the main bathroom - very odd as I was asked to wait at check-in for a few minutes for "inspection" - surprised it wasn't caught
- Was given the same suite type 2 floors down, which smelled much better
- TVs only have Chromecast rather than native applications
- WiFi uses the Freedomx portal system, which always has a frustrating time on my laptop with the initial connection attempts vs. other portal systems
- Speaker room control panel is incredibly bright and does not have an obvious dimming function
Overall, I enjoyed my time at the LM and would not regret a return visit.
