Hi all, I'm planning to travel between Madrid and Melbourne later this year on J, and QR is by far the most expensive OW option. I'm keen to maintain my Privilege Club platinum status and want to maximise the Qpoint earnings I earn as a result, but would appreciate some advice regarding earning rates on the cheapest options (which are 2-3 times cheaper than QR)
The cheapest options I have come across are:
- Fully QR operated flights, but booked through the Iberia website with an Iberia marketing / code. (MAD-DOH-MEL)
- IB and QF operated flights which goes via LA, but with AA marketing / code. (MAD-LAX-MEL)
I'm trying to understand if:
- with the first option, will I be able to earn Qpoints as per the QR earning rate given my membership with them and they are the operating carrier? Because it I earn it against the Iberia code, it will be 4 times less than the QR earning rates.
- with the second option, will I be able to earn the AA Qpoints earning rate or will it run the risk of giving me the Iberia / Qantas earning rates as they are the operating carriers? (E.g. for the MAD-LAX sector, it's 50 Qpoints one way if treated as an IB flight, but 115 Qpoints if treated as an AA flight). QF is also pretty appalling earning rates compared to AA.
Your advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
