I'm flying to Madrid tomorrow evening from the US on Iberia. The first leg is on American, but I booked through Iberia and the main transatlantic flight is on Iberia.

I was hoping to be able to bid on an upgrade from coach to business class. Iberia.com says there are still 6 seats available, and expertflyer.com says there are 10. But I never received an invitation to bid. Customer service told me I would be able to bid upon online check-in. Well, I just completed online check-in and there is still no bid option. Now customer service says I can do it "at the gate."

Customer service has been pretty much worthless. Is this basically a lost cause? Or can anyone give me any pointers on how to bid?
