It’s true. This is presumably happening because China has had travel restrictions earlier this year whereas the rest of the world did not. Realistically, most normal Chinese travelers do not stay at Marriott hotels. I do not think it is that big of a deal.
I also do not think people in China have a crazy Bonvoy advantage given the fact people with access to American credit cards can get Platinum status and 40 EQNs without ever setting foot in a Bonvoy hotel. In fact, an American could spend their way to Titanium status with the Bonvoy boundless without ever even visiting a Bonvoy hotel. This is the status quo in America for the foreseeable future and doesn’t rely on a generous one-off promo.
Americans are truly privileged within the world of travel.
