This is most likely what occurred.
More than 80% of the seats in the J cabin were already selected, which blocks the seat map until OLCI opens. Seat 1C on KL 737s is always blocked and only becomes available for selection after OLCI opens.

Blocked seats also count towards the 80% limit. As an example, a Platinum might be able to see an almost full 777 J seat map due to row 2 seat availability, while for a Gold or below the seat map will be blocked. (Row 2 is reserved for Platinums on longhauls until OLCI opens.)
