I have been in Shanghai a few days now, and tried out the Alipay Tour Card a couple of times.
First time at a Starbucks to pay for a coffee, no problem at all.
Second time at Japanese curry place in the basement of a shopping mall, they looked confused and I had to tell them "Alipay" multiple times, but they scanned the code and it went through without problems.
