Claiming EU261 issue

Looking for any help or advice...

I am trying to claim compensation for a cancelled flight, however I am running into an issue because I booked the flights on behalf of someone else.

I booked two flights last month for family members from Belfast to england, to attend an event. I did not travel on the flight myself. Their flight was cancelled with less than 12 hours notice, and any easyjet alternatives offered were days later, meaning they would miss the event. I rebooked them on an aer lingus flight. They kept the return flight on easyjet so only the outward journey was affected.

When I applied for the cost of the aer lingus flights to be covered by easyjet, they did pay me the difference which is fair enough.

When applying for EU compensation for the cancelled flight - if I put myself as the booker, Easyjet reply and say I am a 'third party' and I cannot claim. Even though I booked and paid for the booking.

When my family member put a claim in, after I was denied, they got an email back saying they could not find the booking.Please resubmit your claim providing the information below:
  • Booking reference number;
  • Flight number;
  • Flight date;
  • Departure Airport and Arrival Airport;
  • First name and last name of claimant;
  • First name and last name of passengers;
  • Email address of claimant;
Please note that under the Regulation, the lead booker is able to make a claim for themselves, as well as claim for all other passengers on the booking. Where a passenger wishes to make a claim, they are only entitled to make a singular claim for themselves.

None of the information they asked for, was missing from the original claim. What happens when the lead booker is not one of the passengers? How can we resolve this? My family member was only trying to claim for themselves, and not for the other person on the booking.

I don't know if Easyjet are trying to be deliberately difficult, or there is some other way we need to process a claim when the booker was not one of the passengers.

Thank you for any advice.
