I believe splitting the PNR was a huge mistake, that effectively leaves the finance with no status. I assume the OP did this because as PPro, they didn't have enough SWUs for both tickets. If that is the case, I'd have done miles+copay for both in order to stay on the same PNR.

I've used Miles+Copay for 2 of us on same PNR and they still had to split the reservations. But they were able to associate companion with me for the upgrade priority and MCE seat selection while we waited.
