As a result of a tail strike? I don't know. What I do know, is that hairline cracks (and metal fatigue) can lead to parts of the aircraft being stripped away in flight.

Losing part of the mid-center fuselage is a disaster at best, losing part near various critical control surfaces at the rear would likely be a catastrophe involving the total loss of the aircraft. You might be willing to risk your (and everyone else's) life, but the airlines, understandably, are not.
