It's really weird that the agent wanted a card for the guest but not the member. As I mentioned above, it is not uncommon for United Club members to access MLLs. Must have been a new agent? I would have tried asking for a supervisor.

Then again, if you meet any resistance getting in, smile and take the $75 ETC, which is worth far more than access to a MLL.

Honestly, I'd be more concerned about how late your flight might be and, if you are in Y, the seat on Rouge.
