How easy or difficult is it to walk between this hotel and "Phrom Phong" BTS station if you are pulling large and heavy luggage ?

Pretty easy, so long as you are doing it between 10am and 10pm. Walk down to the Mercure/Ibis, cross the road when you can (this may be the hardest part), aim for Starbucks, walk up the ramp in front of it to enter Emporium. Head straight from the entrance. You'll eventually come across an escalator up a level (there are lifts too, but tend to take ages), veer right, exit onto the concourse level of the BTS.
Even without luggage I would always go that way, because Emporium has flat surfaces and great air conditioning. There's also a good foreign exchange desk there.
