traveling with a companion next week and we are flying out together but have to fly back on different dates. i'm 1k and companion is a basic member.

on the way out, i'm using my plus points to upgrade both of us and that has been cleared. on the way back, I noticed that even if I book the flight for companion, 1k status does not extend.

question: if I book 2 tickets on companion's date of return and use my 1k benefit to put companion into economy plus seating / plus point upgrading and cancel my seat after plus point upgrades clear... would companion lose the economy plus seating / plus point upgrade?
