Yes. It is a a longer flight. But still. Even with lieflats and 3 hours of sleep at best, I still feel like crap in NY all day.
I agree that West Coast--> East Coast isn't ideal, but 4.5hrs in the air makes a HUGE difference versus 2.5 (with or without a lie flat). I've been able to function fairly decently coming off flights from LAX-MCO, JFK, PHL, etc. whereas the time I did the redeye from LAX-DFW I was a wreck the entire day. Too short of a flight to take melatonin because you'll feel tired the whole morning. Too short of a flight to drink a lot because you can't sleep it off. Just no great strategies for handling it.
