I was sure I'd already reviewed this hotel, but the review is not online. Let me try again.
- Name of the hotel:
Mercure Figueira da Foz, Portugal
- What is your ALL status?
Gold
- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest double room with city view. I was upgraded to a superior room with ocean view.
- How are the rooms?
There are three main room categories: standard rooms with city view, standard rooms with ocean view and superior rooms with ocean view. The rooms with city view are smaller than the ones with ocean view. The rooms with ocean view have a small balcony. Additionally, superior rooms are equipped with a kettle and offer bathrobes and slippers.
Most elements in the rooms are very old (heavy wooden doors, wardrobes, desks etc.), but still functional and in relatively good state. There was a bathtub in the bathroom.
- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
* The view is the best feature. It's nice to see the ocean from the bed when you wake up in the morning.
* The best towels I've ever had at any hotel. There were enormous and nice and fluffy.
Bad:
* No soap in the bathroom. There was only a big bottle of gel/champoo over the bathtub.
* The area around the hotel is a bit sleepy in low season. There are some restaurants/bar but no supermarkets or bigger grocery shops. (If you want a snack, bring it with you.)
* There only two lifts for the whole hotel: one is small (big enough for 1 person with a suitcase); the other is even smaller. Sometimes they would refuse to take you up/down.
- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
n/a
- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Welcome drinks voucher was given at check-in. I got a small (0.3l) draught beer and a non-alcoholic beer.
The hotel prepared a welcome amenity (bottle of water and apples) even though I reserved my stay on the day of the arrival.
As mentioned above, I got upgraded to a superior room with ocean view (2 categories).
- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
I stayed at this hotel just a few days before Easter. The rates were quite low. I paid around 70 EUR per night despite making the booking on the day of arrival.
I would be happy to return in low season. In July and August, the hotel is probably too expensive and too crowded.
