What I might personally like - and isn't perhaps in style and available - would be a kimono or flowy cardigan, hip length, in cut velvet, jewel tones, maybe peacock or paisley ;-) I wear mostly black, and look good in jewel tones. I usually pack/wear scarves for pops of color in my palette but think that style topper would elevate a look for me.

Deeply dorky! love it, and know exactly what you mean. The zip off pants have a fear factor for me also, though I just wore a pair to the Tel Aviv airport so am still sad about that!
