Holiday Inn Express - Marseille Saint-Charles

What is your IHG One Rewards status?
Diamond Inner Circle Royal Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
It does (poorly) the job.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked on points one night as the InterContinental Marseille was full the first day of the long 1st May weekend (even TGV trains were full Friday evening).
Booked courtyard view room and received the same.

How are the rooms?
Around 20 sqm large.
The room starts to show its age but is perfectly clean.

Quite comfortable bed without usb sockets.
Small desk

Bathroom with walk-in shower.
Urban Skincare toiletries.

Kettle.
Connectable television with good selection of international channels (even if some of them have no signal)

View over the courtyard.
Very quiet.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
GOOD
Just next the main station (very convenient for late arrival).

BAD
- The service is poor: the staff clearly have no experience in the hospitality industry, are not managed and have no sense of service
- the breakfast, basic but decent, is just catastrophic for the organisation: 3 young members of staff unable to manage the room (tables not cleared for a long time preventing guests from taking their seats, buffet left empty, no cutlery and glasses for a long time).

Value for $ or IHG One Rewards Points? Would you return?
Unless if I really need to (the new Crowne Plaza, even if location is not central) will be a nice and much welcomed addition in Marseille.
