If a property faces too many no show charges that they are unable to get paid for, they (meaning the management company or ownership) will be far more vigilant and hawkish about ensuring they are getting paid one way or another for that room.
And it seems they chose the way that earned them a higher nightly rate by selling the suite to someone else.
There have been threads in the past where Hilton closed someone’s account for not paying their hotel bill. Given the OP has Diamond status and likely some pile of miles at risk, I think the property has leverage if the OP had in fact no-showed. But of course, they never had any interest in even trying to get a valid backup credit card from the OP.
How much do hotels authorize prior to an award stay, and how far in advance do they do this? Is this spelled out on the room rate terms, or can hotels just do whatever they want with your line of credit?
