I have never made such a change to an award (but believe it’s possible based on prior conversations, so hopefully others will chime in). But since awards are readily cancelable for a full refund (minus $12.50 non-refundable partner booking fee), I personally would not hesitate to lock in now what is available and then keep looking for a better option.
