United Gateway and Quest

It has been two years since I got United Quest card. The annual fee is due in May.

I have a Gateway card which was PC from Select card. This card was approved in 2009. My plan is to PC this Gateway card to Quest. Then cancel the Quest card I got two years ago.

Yesterday I called Chase to ask about PC Gateway card to Quest. Chase told me it would be OK. However, the clock of Quest starts the day PC is approved. I will not get $125 United credit and two 5000 miles on award tickets until a year after. Although I can keep the credit history, I will only get basic Quest card benefits with $250 annual fee for next 12 months.

I have 10+ credit cards. Many have overlapping benefits. Gateway card is the #5 by credit history. I hardly use Gateway card. Only frequently in Q1 2023 when Chase Bonus had 5x on grocery and gas purchases.

What would be a good strategy?
1. Keep both, although I use Quest much more.
2. Cancel Quest which was approved in 2021. PC Gateway to Quest for sake of FICO. Pay $250 for basic benefits.
3. Cancel Gateway.

Until how old we don't have to care about FICO anymore?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
