Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel and Conference Center

Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel and Conference Center

What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
The hotel is located close to the airport and next to the Chicago Fashion Outlets and close to the Rosemont Train Station.

After my transatlantic flight I wanted to have a hotel close to the airport and easy access to the interstates, as I was not in the mood of a longer drive and wanted to leave early. Booked with points during the recent members only sale and the Crowne Plaza was nearly the same as the other IHG options.

I arrived at the hotel at 22:00 and was the only guest checking in. The agent retrieved the reservation from the system. The agent thanked me for being a Diamond member and asked if I like the points, the welcome drink or the breakfast as Diamond Amenity. I went with the breakfast and received a voucher excluding gratuity. Breakfast would be served in the restaurant “on the fly from 06:00 bis 10:00). It was also mentioned that I received an upgrade to an Executive Suite which was also shown in the app a couple of hours earlier.

I had to ask about gym and pool (open from 06:00 to 22:00) which means it was already closed. My parking ticket was validated (granted in / out permissions)

A fitness center is available on the ground floor along with a lap loop. I had planned to use the pool after arrival but to the delay of my flight, missed the deadline. Later I learned that it would have been closed for maintenance on the day of my arrival anyway, which was not announced.

The gym consists of a weight room and a room with stepper and treadmills. Both were busy on the morning, so I did not took any pictures.

Breakfast is served as buffet on the ground floor in the windowless “on the fly” restaurant. Available were a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, muffins, bagels, toast. Hot items were hashed brown, scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes, bacon and sausages. Tea and coffee as well as juices were available. Everything was self-service. Used dishes were cleared only after the guest left. Real plates, mugs and cutleries as one could expect from a CP.

Internet was fast

Check out was quick and fast. Parking was comped, which was nice.

Which room did you book, and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard room with 25,000 points and received Executive Suite.

How are the rooms?
My room was located on the 10th floor.

I was upgraded to an Executive Room with a living room, wet bar and microwave. The bedroom was a separate room.

After stepping into the room the bathroom was to the left. There was no real closed, only and area with a curtain. The bathroom was had bath, sink with more than sufficient place to store items. Shampoo, bath foam, and lotion were still the small ones. Towels (three large and medium sized ones were available. No slippers and bathrobes were provided. Water pressure was okay. Missed a light above the bath.

The living room had a higher bar style table with four bar stools on one side next to the bar area. This part also had a large mirror and a coffee machine. Two bottles of water were also provided; I received a third one during check-in.

The living room featured also the desk and a sofa with a small table. The TV was mounted above the desk, which I dislike.

The bedroom had a large king size bed with two bedside table with lamps and additional reading lamps. An armchair was placed in front of the window along with a lamp and small table. A second tv was wall mounted opposite the bed.

Sockets were placed at the desk and below the tv in the bedroom. I would say sufficient.

The room was rather dark, and the lamps are not very bright. It also appeared a bit old fashioned with the large mirror at the bar area. But everything was clean, occasionally scratches here and there.
No pen / biro and writing pad were available in the room.

How is the exec. lounge?
n/a.

What was good and what was bad?
Good
Staff is friendly
upgrade and status recognition
location is well connected to public transportation and roads.
Really fresh and tasty fruits on the breakfast buffet.
Size of room
lap / size of pool
Parking fee of 25 USD was waved, but the reason might be, that I stayed for less than 10 hours.

Neutral
rooms are dark
Stay posted late
Style is a bit outdated
no real closet

Bad
gym is not open 24/7

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The location is good. The rooms are of a good size, though a bit dark. Room is in good condition and offers a real desk, but the style is a bit outdated. Pool and fitness are available, though not 24/7 (at least for the gym I expect nowadays 24/7 at airport hotels). Breakfast buffet is above average for US standards, but the selection of fresh fruits (strawberries, blueberry, pineapple, melons) were good.

In so far, I would return, if the rates are affordable.
