I have built up fair number of Avios over the years. Probably close to 2 million. Each time I try to use them, I find either no availability or poor economics. On the economics side, I live in the US and to fly to London or through London to elsewhere, the UK taxes seem pretty close to the cost of just buying a ticket. So each time, I end up paying for a ticket.

So, it would seem as if using them for non-BA flights (AA, Iberia, Cathay, etc.) would make more sense. Whenever I've asked my assistant to use the Avios, she says there is no availability. She is diligent and tries online and then calls the BA Gold line (with extremely long wait times) and does not find a way to use the Avios.

Am I missing an obvious way to use them? Should I transfer to Iberia? Could I transfer to Aer LIngus or AA? I have used AA miles (once had about 2 MM of them and did not have that much trouble using them) and now find my B6 TrueBlue points easy to use (have about 700K, I think). Could I transfer to Amex Rewards or Chase Sapphire Rewards?

I'd appreciate any advice.
