Hertz IT is a total mess on a good day. I have yet to have the 'extend my rental' feature work properly. I haven't been asked to show my credit card in years though, just my license at the gate. Probably only ask if its your first and new in the system.
Biggest problem is their website frequently just plain doesn't work or gives errors when trying to rent... or trying to use points doesn't work.
