Now, making reservations changeable on non-flexible tickets would be a canny move, since the current inflexibility is quite a big point of difference between BA and the low cost carriers despite the lower fares BA currently offers.

If BA introduce one-way fares (which would be a really big upheaval, even though the mixed-fare class pricing of dom and european travel if half way there) that would be a real enhancement.
