Some of the FFI, CY, RI etc. do look like that, the one in Richfield wasn't even up to date when we stayed there many years ago. I ended up driving 30 miles more to stay at a recently renovated CY rather than a rundown FFI. This doesn't only happen with Marriott, but I used to think Marriott is better than IHG and Hilton (Some Hilton and IHG are really worn even at pre-pandemic level). I think they are somewhat on par with each other.
That's why I normally pick those that are "recently remodelled" - at very least the room is new.
