Completed a two-night stay here. Beautiful space, delicious breakfast, serious issues with staff.
I spent 10 days traveling all over Romania accompanied by Romanian friends I met during my first visit some 25 years ago. Incredibly kind but simple people. Wearing Shein outfits, struggle with the big city and have to ask for directions to Caru cu Bere three times on the 200m walk. One of them weighs some 250lbs. This wasn't a problem anywhere else in Romania, nor at Andaz Munich or IC Paris or SR Florence, where we met up in the past. But it was at the Marmorosch. Front desk staff gave us disapproving, almost hostile looks whenever we passed. Sat down to have drinks in the main hall on the first floor, and they were reluctant to serve us.
Had booked two rooms on points, one Sat-Mon for myself, one Sat-Sun for my guests. Night prior to arrival, app shows upgrade to Gold (larger guestroom) for the Sat-Sun reservation, and no upgrade (Silver) for Sat-Mon reservation. At checkin, told that there's no availability for Sat-Mon, so ended up putting my guests in the Gold room and I stayed in the Silver (standard) room. Checked app, and everything was wide open for Sat-Mon -- Gold, Gold Deluxe, Platinum, Titanium, Heritage. Now, I know that inventory shown on the app isn't necessarily accurate, but what are the odds of all room types being incorrectly shown as available?! This was also evidenced by occupancy at breakfast; Sun morning was significantly busier than Mon morning, so I'm 99% confident that "we don't have a better room available for the 2-night stay" was a lie.
The Silver rooms are tiny -- mine couldn't have been more than 18-20 sqm. My window faced a construction site and an old building with lots of graffiti, and a narrow street with the occasional moron revving his engine or ambulance driving by at 3am. From the floorplan, some rooms overlook the Romanian central bank (which I suspect would be a beautiful view), some have courtyard (or even no?) view. Not sure if rooms on floor 5 and up overlook the rooftops, which could be nice.
Breakfast was the saving grace. Excelent buffet with high quality items, sparkling wine brought to the table, and a long list of items made on-demand, including delicious pancakes, french toast, and eggs benedict. The vault bar also looked amazing, but I didn't have time for a drink on Sat, and it was closed on Sun.
Overall, great breakfast, super central location and a great building, but I won't be back. Gonna try the new IC next time.
