SAS call centre agents would not have been authorised to rebook to other than SAS or "close" partners like LH, whereas if you had spoken to airport staff (SK has staff at HEL?) they could have rebooked you easily to a direct AY flight. In case of IRROPS when at the airport always talk to and let airport staff deal with rebooking.
SK has slashed most of their ticketing offices outside NO SE DK. Not sure the ground crew that handles SAS can help with the situation, from what I know they don't in YYZ.
