Where do you find flights that net 5k tier miles for just 375 euro? It would probably have to be several segments. Maybe something in SAS Plus or SN business class? But even then I think it would be difficult to achieve. You would also need to have the time.
If time is short, I think buying the tier miles can be an OK deal. Then again, if you are so short on miles, do you really need the status?
I did say that it’s unusual for me to be so far off the mark with just 3 months left, that’s just how things have turned out since the beginning of August. I’ve done mostly domestic hops on LO, plus a couple of short notice trips to regional UK airports where *A wasn’t really practical or cost-effective at the time.
I didn’t have any long-haul flights in the last year either. I travel at my own expense and I’m most likely to take longer trips from September to March, but last winter ill health curtailed my travel plans.
My qualification date used to be 01 FEB, which usually worked out well as I could find cheap flights and hotels for the winter period if I was short on miles. But during the pandemic I got a 6 month extension. With 01 AUG any last minute trips are going to fall into the peak season
