I have....I've had bank employees visit me at my home and take 'verification pictures' of them together with me in my apartment during Covid.
Supposedly there was some new regulation about banks having to verify domicile, or something.

I spent 3 hours at the branch the following day, and that was just to update my passport number.

It's the reason why -like you- I suggest to go with a more international bank, and not a purely domestic one.
