I don't believe that having a Chinese bank account is an absolute requirement. If you are determined to make this work, I give you 80% odds of success if you talk with customer service. You can try chatting with them. If that fails, it is possible to call them and speak with a person (might need to try a few times; most of the menu options are bot only)
