Indeed from past discussions on this forum I recall many preferred non-stop NYC-SIN flights, because:
1. They wanted to experience the current longest flight available,
2. It's a polar flight, and often allows interesting sightseeing.
Currently it's possible that SQ is one of the airlines that joined the boycott of Russian airspace. If that's the case, this flight can no longer go over the North Pole.
