New build in Nanjing, China opening tomorrow (Apr 26), category 4. Not exactly the best location for leisure travelers, but is easily accessible by metro and is part of the IFC development, slated to become one of the highest-end shopping mall and office building complex in the city.
362 total rooms including 36 suites occupy the property, with standard rooms starting at 35 sqm and suites starting at 55 sqm. IMO too small for even a Regency in the region, let alone an Andaz. Design is headed by Singapore-based Avalon Collective (IC Maldives, Four Seasons Maldives, Hangzhou and Suzhou).
The property received a bit of backlash amongst Chinese frequent travelers for abruptly raising its award chart category (category 2 to 4) last week after accepting reservations for nearly a month, though no indication suggest the 8k points bookings won’t be honored.
Hotel is owned by Hong Kong developer Sun Hong Kai properties, with its hotel portfolio including the Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons and W in Hong Kong as well as the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai Pudong. It’s only Hyatt property is the rebranded Hyatt Centric Hong Kong Victoria Harbor, with a few (including Andaz Xujiahui in Shanghai) in the pipeline.
BTW, Hyatt refreshed designs for its Hyatt Centric and Andaz webpages in the past few weeks, and the results look … meh.
