In the summer of 2007, I had checked in luggage pieces that were part of the massive BA/LHR luggage mess where a huge volume of luggage got soaked like crazy at LHR. By the time BA got the bags back to me in a country in which I had no home, there was even visible mold growing inside the bag, including with mold spots on clothes. I had filed a baggage irregularity report on arrival at the airport, so maybe that helped my case.

I bought a new wardrobe in Stockholm, and BA paid out to me the USD equivalent of the 1288 SDR limit applicable under the Montreal Convention. BA isn't immune from legal claims related to luggage being water damaged during BA (and its agents/contractors') handling of the checked-in luggage.
