I can't speak to that long of a layover at JFK (it's always O/D for me), but if it'd give you peace of mind, bag storage at JFK T4 is directly adjacent to baggage claim (you literally walk by it coming out of the domestic bag claim), so you'd barely have to go out of your way if you wanted to do so.
