Interesting approach and departure.
Departure typically involves setting thrust with brakes deployed until fully spooled up. Kinda like an old skool brake stand😉
Yes - main issue with ZQN is the runway length at 5830 feet vs CHC at 10787 feet on 20/02 with good RESA, curfew free, and land available for a future proposed 1000 ft extension. Even the secondary runway 11/29 is longer than ZQN. Challenging to lengthen ZQN due to a large river and canyon to the north, and suburbs and lake to the south. CHC doubles as a US military base and is well supported.

I bet if ZQN was long and safe enough for a widebody someone would be already running a ZQN - west coast NA direct as this is the primary NZ tourism destination, far more so than CHC or even AKL. Also a healthy amount of US expats with vacation property in and around ZQN.

Personally hoping for someone to offer a CHC-YVR flight, maybe Air Canada - or even Westjet if they expanded into the southern hemisphere?!
