If you're booking a reward ticket you will need reward availability in the higher cabin. If you have a joker/space release you can use that and then pay the Avios for the WTP and use the GUF2 to move up to CW.
Unless I'm reading this wrong, I think that is not the case. The GUF can book you into the higher cabin regardless of any reward availability in either cabin and regardless of any availability in the lower cabin. You only need discounted (A,I) revenue inventory for the higher cabin. That worked for me as of today, booking with avios+241+GUF.
