The plane sat at CGN for refuelling for a long while - the thunderstorms prevented the ground crew from doing anything for a while. When I finally landed at FRA, the onward FRA-BRU flight was long gone. Initially there were no LH staff members giving any instructions, but then I discovered that they had turned the check-in area into a "hotel voucher" area.

Since many other flights had had to divert, there must have been hundreds of people in the queues, and the situation was chaotic. When I got to the desk, LH issued me with a hotel voucher and two taxi vouchers. I had been put in a city centre hotel for the night and reaccommodated on the following morning's first BRU flight on LH. The taxi rank was an even bigger chaos - no queue, taxis trying to figure out who was going in the same direction etc. The hotel was unremarkable (the Maritim at Messe) and now I've made it to the lounge and am waiting for the final leg to board.

I'll await with curiosity whether all of this qualifies for EU261 compensation from SK - but even if it does, I would much rather have made it to my destination on time than gone through the last 12+ hours of cancellations and diversions!
That's unfortunate! If you could have gotten off at CGN, rent a car and it's 2:30 drive to Brussels and you would have been there on the same day.
