I’m sure it used to be that the middle table there just could not be in position for takeoff and landing. In the good old days, the Purser would undo a little metal cabinet under that centre seat, remove the table and fit it — although quite often they were keen not to install it, if passengers were not too demanding about it, because there was a fear of trapping their fingers
