The Omonia area reference was a bit tongue in cheek.....
I am myself stoutly built and reasonable foolish in luck
but Omonia at night gets even me shivering to get my bottom pinched..
during the day it is reasonable ok to pass through but i would seek out other areas for hotels
Hence the reference as Omonia area as the not so glamorous area out if all Athens central neighbourhoods...
The rest of Athens is pretty fine as a tourist
no, no - i much appreciated the understatement of your reference to Omonia as
not the most glamorous of spots
. 
An epithet that might have been applied to London's Soho some decades back: maybe there's hope for Omonia.
