While we are all pleased to learn that you your pockets were not picked on your visits to Athens, extrapolation of that happy experience has zero value as an indicator of either risk or safety.
Some of the other six million tourism visitors to the city did not share your good fortune. The number of those who suffered from theft on the metro was sufficiently high to concern the GNTO/EOT as well as the airport and metro/STASY authorities, and prompt monitoring activities by the police.
