UA recent high rates of equipment failure? Or personal unlucky streak?
I'm now sitting at AUS waiting for the (so far) four times rebooked and again delayed today's flight to DCA (via IAH) to depart.
In the past 30 days, I've travelled weekly on UA, mostly domestic and one TATL trip. Every single trip had filghts with one or more equipment issue, ranging from small mechanical (cabin) to major (engine). The domino effect, however, resulted in major disruptions to me. Like the today's ORD-AUS cancelled inbound due to "mechanical issues", which propagated to major disruption of all AUS outbound UA flights. Last week, my DCA-ORD was delayed 1h because the ground crew forgot to refuel the auxiliary power unit (captain's words), which then made me run a good length of O'Hare B terminal to catch the next flight. Similarly, last Friday my daughter's ORD-SAN flight was cancelled due to mech issues (and this was her changed flight due to an original outbound cancellation.)
These issues seem more frequent recently than what I had experienced in the past. Coupled with the often fully booked flights this translates into major inconveniences (to use a very gentle qualification here). Even as 1k flying Y-fare, I often cannot get a confirmed seat the same day.
I have not had a chance to do a careful investigation but wonder if others have had a similar experience?
I'll be sending an email to 1kvoice but that's not likely to do much to reduce the incidents other than get me some compensation.
